Penobscot General Contractors was founded in Rockport, Maine, in 1970.It was home to our first office, and it’s a chapter of our history we’re proud of. But today, we have a new a vision – and a new office.
Before we show you around, let’s start at the beginning even before there was a building.
It’s good to outgrow things.
In 2020,Jon DiCentes and Clay Maker became the new leaders of Penobscot General Contractors. Committed to the company’s long-standing values of transparency and putting people first, Jon and Clay focused on moving the company forward. Leveraging extensive industry expertise, they put together the right people, the right technology, and the right tools to position PGC for greater success.
The fruits of those efforts have already been significant, but there’s more to come as we’ve positioned ourselves as an organization that is uniquely skilled to handle the building needs of the 21st century. That’s why we realized, in midst of a big project meeting all crammed into a tiny room on a job site, we needed more space. But as luck would have it, we helped construct the building.
Building our HQ without knowing it.
We started this project in December 2020. It was originally one building, which immediately turned into two office buildings, with very similar designs on the same site. This was in the peak COVID era, but the developer read the market. He knew there was, and would be, a demand for smaller-sized office spaces and he was right.
At 30,000 square feet (and 4-stories) each, these two steel buildings are immediately recognizable for the clean design and many windows. There are two anchor tenants – Chase Bank and The Sicilian Table (the latter has a TBD opening date).
These office spaces have 12 combined tenants. The exciting (and challenging) part of this project was in the customization. We directly helped many tenants create their unique spaces – including floorplan layout; flooring; ceiling; wall paint; and custom millwork. These decisions would often change in frequent walk-throughs, and it was a tall order for logistical coordination. While there were many moving parts and lots of problem-solving opportunities, we got it done on schedule, and we got everybody into their space.
241 U.S. Route 1, Suite 401, Falmouth, ME 04105
That’s our new address.
We were doing a variety of new jobs in southern Maine, and this big two-building project in Falmouth was one of them. About an hour after that elbow-to-elbow meeting, we called up the developer and said we’d take whatever they had left. That spontaneous call (and the last spot in the building) is now our amazing office space.
Space to grow
Our new Penobscot General Contractors’ office is about 2,500square feet, and includes five private offices, a 14-person conference room, and a large “hoteling space. “Many of our staff regularly travel from job site to job site, and we wanted them to have a place to pop in, plug in, and get some work done. With a rotating cast of people working in the office, it’s one of the best parts of our new space.
Thanks to the many windows and glass doors, our office has a lot of natural light, while the building offers a nice outdoor space for our company gatherings, too.
In addition to our satellite office in Bangor (to accommodate our team up North), our Falmouth office was built for our company growth. There’s no doubt that Penobscot General Contractors is ready for the future, and we’ve found the exactly right place to build what comes next.
